Wallace Gotberg Obituary

Wallace
Anton Gotberg
"Wally"

Our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and
friend, passed away peacefully August 11, 2007 surrounded by his family. Dad
exhibited perseverance, courage and faith during the past four years of his
life. He showed us all what "endure to the end" really means. He was born April
12, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carl Oscar Gotberg and Lillian Carlson
Gotberg. He was married December 2, 1946 to his sweetheart and eternal
companion, Beverly Green. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple,
February 15, 1992. They have spent 60 years wonderful years together.
Dad was an active member of the LDS Church. He was a high priest for many years
and served as a faithful home teacher to many of his fellow ward members. His
life was exemplified by service to others. He was an avid outdoors man. He and
Mom were able to spend many memorable vacations touring in their motor home
and, of course, fishing along the way. If there was a fish in the stream, Dad
would catch it. He loved camping, fishing, and most of all, spending time with
his children, grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He and Mom worked
hard maintaining their beautiful park like yard where they enjoyed many hours
with family and friends. He will be remembered for his beautiful garden, work
ethic, integrity, sense of humor and love for his family. He called everyone
he knew "my friend."
Dad attended and graduated from Jordan High School. He served in the Army
during World War II, Pacific Theater, as a C-47 Crew Chief. At one point in
time, a plane he was aboard crash landed in the Philippines. The pilot and
co-pilot were injured and Wally was not. He was captured and held as a
prisoner of war for three days at the very end of the war. After World War II
Dad served in the Utah Air National Guard for 10 years in the same capacity,
as a C-47 Crew Chief. Dad also owned and operated Union Auto in Sandy, Utah
for many years.
Dad is survived by his loving companion, Beverly; two children, Wendy Ann
Farnsworth (Kevin) and Teresa (Terrie) Leigh Hymas (Kelly); also surviving him
are his five grandchildren, Elisa Tennille Johnson Brazell (Cody) Matthew Eric
Johnson (Stephenie), Erin Ashlee Ostler, Andrew James Ostler and Kara Marie
Ostler. His three precious great-grandchildren are Skye Nicole Brazell, Alexis
Elisabeth Brazell, and Aja Ashby Johnson. His brother, David Gotberg (Gayle),
also survives him. Preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Marvin Eric
Johnson; and brothers, Roland, Kenneth, Norman, and Russell. His special son,
Wallace Kent (his best friend and fishing partner) will welcome his father
with open arms.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior
to services at the Butler 20th Ward, 1435 E. 7200 S. Family and friends may
visit Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m., Broomhead Mortuary, 12600 S. 2200 W,
Riverton. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery. Online condolences

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the CareSource
Hospice Residence facility and their wonderful staff who gave Dad such tender
care in making his last days as comfortable as
possible.
Dad, you will be forever in our hearts until we can all be with you again. God
Takes Only The Best. God saw him getting tired and a cure was not to be, So he
put his arms around him and whispered, "Come with Me." With tearful eyes we
watched him suffer and fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not
make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating and praying hands at rest. God
broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the "Best."

Aunt Bev and family,
We're so sorry about your loss.
We didn't get the word of Uncle Wally passing and we're so sad that we weren't there for you at the viewing or the funeral.
He was such a happy-go-lucky guy!
We loved him dearly. He will be missed at the fireside at the family reunions!
We love you all,
Mark & Angie

Dear Beverly and Family. Wally is a special friend to my Weston. I'll just bet they are slapping each other on the back and sharing the last days since they were with each other. May our Father in Heaven bless you now and in the future. Until that great day when we will all be together again. Sharron
