"Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings." Bill got his wings on August 12, 2012. As in his favorite movie, It's A Wonderful Life, Bill tried to be like George Bailey. Cherished sweetheart, eternal companion, beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend to many - finished his mortal journey here much too soon. Bill was born on May 16, 1947 in Logan, Utah, son of Moses and Elizabeth (Jarvis) Samowitz. Married Noreen (Rasmussen) Samowitz; later divorced. Married Janice (Justesen) Samowitz and they were sealed in the Timpanogas Temple in 2005. Bill was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in various church callings. He was always there for anyone in need. There were no strangers in Bill's life, everyone was family to him. He worked at the United States Post Office for over 40 years and made many long lasting friendships there. His smile will always be remembered by everyone who knew him. He also worked for Advance Funding doing mortgages for several years and was grateful for the many relationships he made there. Bill was an avid train collector. Enjoyed working on his trains every morning, going to train shows and enjoyed sharing his love of trains with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice of nine years, his five children, Bret (Maralee) Samowitz, Scott (Terri) Samowitz, Charity Samowitz, John (Jessica) Samowitz and Katie Samowitz Sizemore; brother, Kirk (Susan) Samowitz, sister, Mrs. Brent (Carellyn) Reed, nine wonderful grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at the River View 8th Ward, 287 W. River Chapel Road (11600 South), Draper, Utah. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah and at the church 1 hour prior to the services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery. www.goffmortuary.com

Dear Jan and Family,

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He called me to tell me of his illness (we touched bases regularly) and when I called him back a few weeks later to see how things were going it was already too late. I just found out today about his passing and am so sorry I missed his funeral. Jan, Bill spoke often and lovingly of you. He cherished his children and always wanted the best for you.

Bill and I started working for the Postal Service in the 1970's, he at Midvale and I in Sandy. We shared a lot of good times and some difficult ones too. We had a chance to become a lot closer after I came to work in Midvale as well. As you know, Bill cared about people. He was always a source of humor and compassion at work and I shall miss his regular phone calls. I'm glad his suffering is over and send my condolences to the family. God Bless you all.

To All of the Dear Samowitz Family...I am so very sorry to see of your beloved father's passing. I know Scotty best. I have such fun memories you, Scott, and the many adventures you and Kelly conjured up! 'Scary' still looks on this nickname with a big smile and a shake of her head! Our home was always a little brighter when I heard of the pranks you two pulled on your family or others. We will miss our 'Billy mouse-ko-witz' more then I can say. May the Lord's choicest blessings be with ALL of you at this time.....my prayers are with you. With Love, Susie Smith

Oh Bill,
I am flooded with memories of fun times we've had together as a family over the years. Our annual Halloween parties, 4th of July BBQ's, and of course Christmas...your favorite! I will not forget your little chuckle and your full on belly laughs! I'm so glad we were able to go see some great movies together with Jan and those memories will always be with me. I'm so grateful you have been part of my life. You have helped me in so many ways and your love and support over the years was a true example of who you are. I'm happy you are now in Heavenly Father's hands and are surrounded with peace and out of pain. Thank you for taking care of Jan. We will always be here for her now so when the time is right you two will be united for an eternity of happiness together. I love you Bill!

I was so sad to be informed of Bill's passing. I've only known Bill for a couple of years, but I knew him in both of his professional endeavors and I learned quickly that he was the type of guy who always went the extra mile to do what is best for someone else. He wasn't motivated by landing the most lucrative deals, but rather, by doing the very best he could for his clients.

I'm truly sorry for the loss of Bill as a friend, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to hear how loved he is by his wife, his children, and other friends.

Rest in Peace, Bill. You clearly left your light shining brightly.

Ahh, Bill... I am so sad! You were such a great neighbor and friend, I really cannot believe you are gone, it was just last week we were laughing so hard around your Kitchen table, you were such a hard worker and you gave it your all. I will miss seeing you in your dads hat outside of your house on Saturdays with your weed killer doing everything you could to kill them nasty buggers... I knew you must have not been feeling well if you had weeds starting in your yard. You were so great with my girls, they are heartbroken but they understand the plan. Please know we are here for Jan we know your biggest worry was Jan... we will rally around and be here for her. I just cannot believe you are gone, you were just telling me stories about your dad and I loved to see your smile on your face! Darn it, I just feel so bad that your gone.. My life took another turn the day you passed away, It's hard to start a life of change when you care about someone so much. Thank you again for your kind heart, thank you for your valiant spirit! Love you Bill, Danica and Bryhn will miss your treats and bringing you pictures.

To Bill's Family, My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. I worked with Bill for 20 years at the Midvale Post Office. He always said'Good Morning, How are you?'. He loved to talk about the latest episode of Hot In Cleveland, and would laugh and laugh. He always had a book with him to read during his breaks. And he loved Christmas music! He would often say he could listen to it all year. He loved and spoke often of his wife Jan, kids and grandkids, he loved you all. Many, many customers have come in asking about Bill, they break down and cry. He enjoyed talking with each one and getting to know them. He will be missed by his customers and coworkers. God Bless, Jana Parker
