Richard Padilla Sr.
July 17, 1924 - February 8, 2016

Richard Padilla Sr., 91, peacefully passed away at his home on Monday, February 8, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born on July 17, 1924 in Bakersfield, CA and lived in Barstow for 57 years. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Ernestine, his parents Felipe & Victoria Padilla, grandsons Ricky, Jacob and Matthew, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Surviving are his children, Diana Ray, Rita Kao, Richard Padilla Jr., Patrick Padilla, Eugene Padilla and Renee Barron and her husband Richard; sister Harriet Jacinto, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter and numerous nephews and nieces. Richard served in WWII from 1943 to 1945. He came to Barstow in 1959 to manage Karl's Shoe Store for 28 years. In 1972, he was elected to the Barstow Community College District. In 1975, he was appointed to the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino in which he served as Chairman of the Board twice. In 1976, he was elected as a Council member for the City of Barstow and again in 1980. During this time he served as Mayor pro-tem. And in 1982, he was appointed to the San Bernardino Planning Commission. Richard also served on various advisory boards for the County of San Bernardino. Richard will be greatly missed by many family members and friends. "He was the BEST." Services for Richard will be on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 505 E. Mountain View St., Barstow. Visitation will be at 8:30 am, Rosary at 9 a.m., and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Mt. View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Rd.
