1927 - 2021

Ardis Fredericka Berthelsen Clark, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in West Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by her family, on April 1, 2021. Ardis was born July 18, 1927 to Alfred and Dorothea Berthelsen in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Ardis grew up in Audubon, Iowa and Seattle, Washington. Her family moved to Des Moines, where Ardis graduated from East High School in 1946.

Ardis worked for Dr. Claude Hunsicker in Des Moines before meeting and marrying Bob Clark. Bob and Ardis raised their family on Bob's family dairy farm. Suffering from allergies, Bob and Ardis decided to build a golf course. In 1961 Willow Creek Golf Course opened with it's first 9 holes. Bob and Ardis made many close and lifelong friendships while operating the golf course. The golf course will continue to be operated by her family.

Ardis was a long-time resident of West Des Moines and a long-time member of the First Christian Church of West Des Moines.

Ardis was a kind person and was blessed to lead a very full life. She was an avid reader. Later in life she especially loved her daily trips to Starbucks, thoroughly enjoying meeting her friends for coffee, and chatting with many. She also loved playing cards with her family. Ardis was a beautiful person in every way.

Ardis will be greatly missed by so many friends, and her family. She is survived by her 4 children, Robert (Rita) Clark jr, Des Moines, Susan Clark, Phoenix, AZ, Daniel Clark, Des Moines and Lori Clark, Des Moines. Six grandchildren, Angie, Corrie, Jason, Adam, Austin, and McKenna, and 3 great grandchildren Nathan, Sadie and Carson. And many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ardis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W Clark and son David B Clark. Also, her parents, Alfred and Dorothea Berthelsen, Bob's parents Warren and Borea Clark, and siblings Lillian (Howard) Flatt of Des Moines, Mildred Berthelsen of San Francisco, CA and Raymond Berthelsen of Des Moines. Niece, Patty (Flatt) Bauer of Newton and nephew Howard Flatt jr of Des Moines.

At Ardis' request there will be no memorial service, her ashes will be spread at a place of her choosing. A celebration of life will be held at Willow Creek at a later date this summer, which will be announced. Her family acknowledges and appreciates everyone's love, support and prayers during this time.

Cards to support the family can be sent to Willow Creek Golf Course.

Ardis, like the entire Clark family, made Willow Creek a hospitable place. When I was playing golf for Lincoln High School the Clark family treated us like champions which we certainly weren't :) The Clarks are an example of a family that makes our community a better place. Thanks to you all!
