Bertha Tucker Obituary

Bertha Tucker, 102, lifelong resident of Des Moines died Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel. Interment will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.

Bertha was born on April 25, 1908, the youngest of the five children of Samuel and Shanna Etel (Hoffman) Korn. She was a graduate of Drake University and was a teacher. She made a home for her husband, Isudore, and their two children, Yale and Janey. Bertha was a member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and Hadassah.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Yale Tucker of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown; grandson, Andrew Tucker of Des Moines; great granddaughter, Sydney Stout; niece, Jackie (Alan) Pollack of Chicago; nephews, Marvin (Marilyn "Robbie") Winick of Windsor Heights and Allan (Ruth) Winick of Chicago; numerous great nieces and nephews; cousins including Dr. Henry Corn; and special friend, Mary Lynn Tucker of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isudore; daughter, Janey Tucker; sisters, Sarah, Sophie and Mary and brother, Harry.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society; National Institute of Mental Health or Child Serve.
