Betty E. Humphreys, 83, of Panora, daughter of Roy & Lucille (Ione) Lemon, was born January 1, 1927 in Webster City, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Panora Nursing & Rehab Center.
She graduated from Stratford High School. In 1951, she married Dean Humphreys in Wisner, Nebraska, where they made their home and operated the newspaper. They lived there for short time before moving to Texas for three years. In 1955, they moved to Los Angeles, California. Betty worked for the Los Angeles Times. In 1965, they moved to Panora. They later were divorced. Betty worked in the composing room at the Des Moines Register Tribune for 20 years retiring in 1986. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching the Chicago Cubs and golf on T.V., and she was always taking pictures.
She is survived by her son; Mark & wife Arlone Humphreys of Panora, granddaughter; Lindsay & husband Doug Taylor of Waukee. Sister; Doris Anderson and brother; Cliff Lemon both of Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter NaDean Klein, and brother Don Lemon.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Panora United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the West Cemetery, Panora. Visitation will be Monday March 29, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. with the family present at Twigg Funeral Home, Panora.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
