Charles Pedersen Obituary

Charles Pedersen

Waukee

Charles Pedersen, 83, entered into eternal life February 2, 2012. A memorial service was held, Wednesday, February 8 at 1 p.m. at The Village at Legacy Point, 1650 SE Holiday Crest Circle in Waukee.

Charles entered into life May 26, 1928, in Dunlap, Iowa, to John and Edith Pedersen. After graduating from high school, he received his Bachelor's degree from Simpson College and achieved his Master's degree from University of Northern Iowa. He worked in education for 45 years as a teacher, counselor, principal and coach. Charles also served his country as a mid-shipman in the Navy and then was drafted to the Army during the Korean conflict.

Charles enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling to all major league baseball parks in the U.S. and traveling abroad. He was an active elder in his church and firmly believed the reason we were put here on this earth was to "help your brother lighten his load". He was always willing to help someone at the drop of a hat. Charles was a true believer in that if you could read, you could do anything.

He is survived by his sister, Rose Johnson; daughter, Carol (Tom) Carder; son, Mark (Kate) Pedersen; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; parents, Edith and John; and siblings, Johnny, Leslie, Mildred, Pearl and Lillian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a donation to Charles' charity of choice.
