Daniel J. Gannon, 71, resident of Sandpoint,Idaho, died at home on May 20, 2014. Dan was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of James M. and Ruth Cairns Gannon. Dan grew up in Bondurant, Iowa, graduated from Iowa State University and served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam.

He is survived by two sisters, Joann Smally of Cape Canaveral, FL and Mary Pat Hay of Chicago, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 742030, LA, CA 90074; or VFW Post No. 2453, 1325 Pine St., Sandpoint, ID 83864.

An interment service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Farrar, IA on July 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.

Dan and I shared some great times together when we were young. We both got drafted at the same time and went to basic training together. A complex and brilliant friend. Take care Danny!
