Dorothy M. Evans, 81, died on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Mill Pond Retirement Home.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Wakonda Christian Church, 3938 Fleur Drive, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Dorothy was born September 26, 1928 to Carl and Glata Hougham in Adel. She was a member of Wakonda Christian Church and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Dorothy retired from Farmer's Mutual Hail Insurance Company after 28 years of service. She then worked part-time at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home for many years. Dorothy sang in the church choir for 46 years and performed many solos at weddings and funerals throughout the years. She had a love for music and the Iowa Hawkeyes in which she was everything but a coach.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles "Chuck" Evans; children, Cathi (Roger) Hackbarth and Brian (Karen) Evans; grandson, Brent (Jennifer) Evans; a great-grandson on the way; sister, Alberta DeVee McLaughlin; and many beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, James Hougham.
Memorial contributions may be given to Wakonda Christian Church.
