He also enjoyed watching old Western movies, completing the New York Times crossword puzzle, cribbage, backgammon, cooking, gardening, reading, shopping and playing Lotto.

He is also survived by his faithful companion of seven years, Cleopatria (Cleo the Cat).

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Eugene Cox, Sr in 1987.

The family would like to thank Dr. Vaena at Holden Cancer Center, U of I Hospital/Clinics, Dr. Otteman at Bliss Cancer Center, Dr. Wanzek at McFarland and the medical community for their compassionate care during Skip's journey.

My mother, Irene Erickson, was a resident of Silvercrest when it first opened and the facility had a magnificent chef! How lucky they were to enjoy his excellent preparations and creative presentations. I'll always remember his smile and laugh. He seemed to be a happy guy with a happy mom, whom he obviously loved. My condolences to all who loved him. He was a special man indeed.
