GARY KLAVER
Ames
Gary Klaver, age 70, of Ames, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was born January 8, 1940 in Blairsburg, Iowa, the son of Ben and Kathryn (McDonald) Klaver. Gary graduated from Blairsburg High School and attended Buena Vista and Simpson College earning a degree in Business Administration. He had a successful career as a salesman and manager in the metals industry.
On April 8, 1962 he and Jerilynn Michaelson were married at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. They lived in Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma, returning to Jewell and later moving to Ames.
Gary was a man of great kindness and integrity who held his family and friends as the treasures of his life. He loved sports and music and was an avid Denver Bronco and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Watching and playing golf were his favorite pastimes.
He is survived by his wife, Jerilynn; his son, Jay and wife Julie and their children, Hayden, Kylie and Thomas of Clarion; and his son, Tom of Hampton. Also surviving are his sister, Gwen (Jerry) Farnham and niece, Karen (Michael) Constant and nephew, Kevin Foell, and one uncle, Jim McDonald and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, Iowa. The family will be present at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Montgomery Memorial Library in Jewell and Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell.
