James Bassarear Obituary
West Des Moines
James R. Bassarear, 67, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Manor Care in West Des Moines. A memorial service will be 2:30 Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Iles Westover Chapel where the family will receive friends an hour and a half prior to the service.
Jimmy was born September 16, 1947 in Des Moines to James and Madelon "Pat" (Alexander) Bassarear. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and attended the University of Iowa. Jimmy had a diverse career working as a respiratory therapist, manager of BMW facility, regional sales manager for Piper Airplanes, owner and operator of a Spa and Recreation company, an underground miner, and as an authentic cowboy. He lived in Colorado, New Mexico, California, Utah, Montana, Texas, and Florida before returning to Iowa a few years ago. Jimmy enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying and playing golf. He lived life his way.
Survivors include his children: Rochelle Bassarear of Los Angeles, CA, Renee Lehmann of Lakewood, CA, and their mother, Nancy O'Brien Alexander of Iowa; James Bassarear, Janea and Jostina; granddaughter, Amelie Lehmann; step-mother, Nancy Bassarear of Westminster, CO; brother, Jeff (Rhonda) Bassarear of Urbandale; sister, Janell (Rich) Rollins of Des Moines; aunt, Betty (Stan) Rains of Des Moines; uncle, John Bassarear of Utah; and former wife and friend Susie Chapman of Florida. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents.
