James Lucia Obituary
Des Moines
James A. Lucia, 62, of Des Moines, passed away on December 4, 2012 in the loving embrace of his family. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 7th at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 8th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Ave, Des Moines.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Gene Lucia, his brother, Rudy Lucia. Jim will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Claudia and their two loving sons, James Anthony of Des Moines and Anthony James, along with his wife Heidi and their daughter, "Precious" Mia of Des Moines; his mother, Fena Lucia; brother, Eugene Jr. (Bobbi) Lucia, both of Des Moines; and sister, Maria Cornelius of Kansas; sister-in-laws, Kathy (Bill) Howard of Indianola and Shonnae Lundy of Des Moines; brother-in-law, Jessee (Phyllis) Weeks and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
Jim was born September 11, 1950 to Gene and Fena Lucia, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968. That same year, Jim went to work for American National Can (Bemis) where he was a dedicated employee for 44 years. Jim and Claudia were married June 6, 1970. He volunteered his time coaching his two boys in all their athletics. He was a dedicated member of St. Anthony's church and felt it was important to raise his family in faith by attending catholic schools. Golf was his second love, so his free time was spent with his close friends at Blank Golf Course.
Jim's family wishes to thank Dr. Tom Buroker, who cared for him during his illness. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to St. Anthony's Catholic Church Foundation

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Jim was a good man. Not only was I lucky enough to have him as a coach at a young age, but as an inspriation. As much as he taught us about the sport, it was nothing compared to what he taught us about growing into good men. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
