James Joseph Riccio, 71, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at Unity Point Taylor House with his loving family beside him. Jim was born June 19, 1943 to Margaret (Raymond) and Anthony Riccio in Des Moines.

Jim graduated with the class of 1962 from East High School. He served his community proudly as a police officer with the Des Moines Police Department. He retired as a Detective. Jim also worked for 7 years as a Federal U.S. Marshall. He was a member of East Gate Masonic Lodge. Jim loved to fish at Lake Ponderosa, buying cars and riding motorcycles. Most of all he loved time spent with his family - especially his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rilla; daughter, Maggie (Travis) Clatt; grandchildren, Maddie and Kendall Clatt; siblings, Carmella (Dan Rice) Halverson, Joseph Riccio, Theresa (Steve) Pint, Amy (Darrin) Galde, Anna Wright and Anthony (Trisha) Riccio; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The East Gate Masonic Lodge will perform Masonic Rights at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the ARL in Jim's name.

Rilla and family I am so sorry for your loss! We will miss seeing Jimmy sitting out in the garage as we drive giving a friendly wave or his friendly conversation.

I remember Jim coming to our house when I was just a young girl. Visiting my mom and the rest of the family...he was such a wonderful guy. Sorry we missed so much time with him thru the years. May he rest in peace always, he will always be remembered as a man who cared about the community.
