James Wood Riggs, 75, died July 6, 2010 at his home. A Graveside service will be Friday, July 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at Brooks South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines on Friday.
James was born April 3, 1935 in Fairfield, IA, the son of Roscoe and Oshia (Wood) Riggs. He graduated from Fairfield High School and went on to trade school to become a barber. He was united in marriage to Rose Ehm on September 7, 1983 in Bethany, MO. James operated and owned various restaurants in the Des Moines area before becoming disabled and then retiring. James was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. James and Rose lived in Des Moines from 1980 to 1992 and then moved to Norwalk. He enjoyed gardening, mowing the yard, traveling, but most of all he enjoyed being involved in the restaurant business.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose of Norwalk; a sister-in-law, Ruth Riggs of High Amana; three sisters: Ruth Wilson of Rogers, AR, Charlotte Klise of Wakarusa, KS, and Shirley (Gene) Freeman of Bettendorf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harry Riggs, Wayne Riggs; his twin, Jerry Riggs; and one sister, Vera Whitmore.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice or to the American Liver Foundation.
