Jean Stebbins Obituary
Johnston
Jean F. Stebbins, age 93, passed away peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, Iowa. Jean was born in Pekin, Illinois on July 20, 1924. She met her husband, Dwayne, at the University of Iowa, and they married in July of 1944. They settled in Des Moines after World War II and raised three children, Barbara, Donald, and William.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne; her son, Donald; and her sister, Joan Waller. She is survived by two children, Barbara (William) Strobach of Racine, Wisconsin and William (Edie) Stebbins of Cumming, Iowa, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and her twin brother, Jack Rogers.
Jean was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and actively served as a community leader in the Camp Fire Girls, Brevity Book Club, P.E.O., Chapter MS, Knitting and Quilting Club. She enjoyed herb gardening and was an accomplished violinist. She was employed by the P.E.O. Executive Offices in the Educational Loan Dept. in Des Moines.
Jean's life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10 at Central Presbyterian Church, 3829 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 9 at Iles Westover Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Jean's name to Central Presbyterian Church.

Such a wonderful lady! Sweet, funny and so caring. I got to know Jean when I was a Deacon at Central. For quite some time, my family picked her up and took her to church each Sunday. She was so nice to our boys! Our condolences. A truly special person.

What a wonderful woman.
Growing up on 37th in the early 1950's, she was a second mother to me and others.....kind, gentle and caring.
My sincere condolences to Barbara and Bill and the rest of her family.
