JOHN H. CHAMBERLAIN

John H. Chamberlain, 91, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2010, at home.
John was born August 29, 1918, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Richard 0. and Cora V. (McFadden) Chamberlain.
John was a member of the first apprenticeship class of the Plumbers and Steamfitters completing his course in 1939. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union #33 where he also served as President of the Local for several years.
John joined the U.S Army in April, 1941. He served in the European Theater and fought at the battle of Omaha Beach. He was honorably discharged in July 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
He served on the Polk County Conservation Board for many years.
John married Alverda (Tuinstra) Chamberlain on July 5, 1941, and they raised four children. John enjoyed his family and friends, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, woodworking, and spending time at his lake home in Minnesota. John will be remembered for his sense of humor and fun-loving nature.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alverda, of Des Moines, daughter, Ruthann Jarrett of Des Moines; son, John Chamberlain, Jr. (Deb) of Wittman, AZ, daughter, Jean (Herb) Berkowitz of Wilmington, NC; daughter- in-law, Debbie Chamberlain of Omaha, NE; grandsons, Eric (Celeste) Chamberlain of Surprise, AZ; Aaron Chamberlain of Wittman, AZ; Bob Jarrett, Jr. (Amanda) of Des Moines; John Chamberlain IV of Des Moines; and granddaughters, Jaime (Doug) Robertson of Omaha, NE; Corrie Chamberlain of Jacksonville, FL, and Kelly (Bob) Radank of Knoxville, TN. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his son, James Chamberlain; parents: siblings Harry, Cliff, Ruth and Gladys; his grandson John Chamberlain III; and son-in-law Bob Jarrett, Sr.
Services will be at Grandview Park Baptist Church today, Friday, January 15, at 11 a.m. Burial following the service will be at Rising Sun Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to West Omaha Baptist Church 13530 Discovery Dr. Omaha, NE 68137.
