Julius Epstein, 93, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 27, 2009 at Temple B'nai Jeshurun. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.
Julius was born the son of Genoch and Alta "Ida" Epstein on February 26, 1916 in Des Moines, where he lived his entire life. He graduated from North High School. On June 19, 1938 he was united in marriage to Lillian Woods. Julius retired as president of Superior Sales Company, a company which he owned along with his brothers, Joe and Phillip. Julius was a member of Temple B'nai Jeshurun and the Hyperion Field Club. He was an avid golfer and gin player. Julius and Lillian enjoyed bowling and square dancing. Since 1975 they wintered in Florida.
Julius is survived by his four children, Jackie (Sheldon) Stein of Las Vegas, NV, Dennis (Sherry) Epstein of Phoenix, AZ, Vance "Randy" Epstein, of Pompano Beach, FL and David (Janet) Epstein of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, Stephanie Stein, Daniel (Valerie) Stein, Leslie (Craig) Synnestvedt, Susan (Andrew) Burrow, Danielle Busse, Christopher Epstein, Nicole Peck, Aliza, Shayna, Daniel and Jessica Epstein, Jesse "Zed" (BJ) Epstein and April Fees; 13 great-grandchildren, Lilly, Gabriel, Alec, Aiden, Jaren, Jacob, Zachary, Isak, Zia, Samantha, Jaylynn, Aubree and Max. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; sisters, Gladys and Sophie and brothers, Joe and Phillip.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Temple B'nai Jeshurun.
