Matthew John Payne, 36, passed from this earth on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time on Thursday.

Matthew was born December 30, 1975 in Des Moines. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School. Matthew worked as a dry wall finisher his entire adult life on many of the Des Moines largest construction projects. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and grilling. Mostly, Matt loved being with his friends and family and will be remembered by them as always making people laugh.

Matthew is survived by his father, John Payne of Des Moines; mother, Suzanne Payne of Melrose; siblings, Kimberly (Fred) Payne-Flowers, Chelsea Payne; daughters, Britteny Payne, Katelyn Payne; grandparents, Jay and Betty Lipson; a niece, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and June Williams.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

I am so saddened to hear of Matt's passing. I grew up with him in Greenfield Plaza and went to school with him through high school. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time!
