Col. Maureen Emily May, USAF Ret., a resident of Clermont, FL, passed away on December 24, 2009, ending her battle with lung cancer.
Maureen was born in Queens, NY, on January 27, 1942, the daughter of the late John D. Higgins and the late Emily Flescher Higgins. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn, NY, and went on to pursue a nursing career from St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY.
Maureen served proudly in both the US Air Force and the Iowa Air National Guard 132nd TFW, and obtained a B.S. degree from St. Francis College.
She is survived by her daughters, Kara May of Des Moines, IA, Dee May and her husband, Matt Hutchison of Johnston, IA; and son, Bill May and his wife, Jennifer of Houston, TX; her brother, John D. Higgins of Reston, VA; her sister, Kathleen Parsell of Clermont; and her grandchildren, Haylee, Johnathan, Jack, Isabelle, William, Anna and was anxiously awaiting the birth of her seventh grandchild due in March of 2010.
