Michael Hirsch Obituary

Dr. Michael Hirsch, MD Henderson, Nv Dr. Michael R. Hirsch, MD, 84, formerly of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2012 at the Siena Hills assisted living home in Henderson, Nevada. Michael was born on November 18, 1928 to Milton and Katherine Hirsch of Highland Park, Illinois, where he graduated high school and entered Northwestern University of Chicago to study medicine. Upon graduation he took a residency in OB/GYN. He married Audrey Ladany of Highland Park, Illinois in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Savannah, Georgia as a Captain and was the attending physician to the military wives. Michael moved to Des Moines with his wife Audrey and his two daughters Hilary and Andrea to take a partnership with Dr. Milton Mark. Eventually he set up his own private practice in Des Moines, and was well respected in the community.

Michael loved skiing, fly fishing, hiking, many other outdoor activities, and took the family on vacations to Colorado and Lake Okoboji. Michael's love for his family always took precedence over his love for medicine, even though his practice could call him away at a moment's notice to bring a new life into the world. He made time for his family. In 1985, Audrey passed away from cancer and Michael eventually remarried and moved to Aspen, Colorado, and then to Henderson, Nevada with his second wife, Mary and her two daughters. Michael was a pillar in the community of Des Moines and was loved by his family, friends, and patients.

He is survived by his two daughters, Hilary Hirsch Butler, 56, of Redfield, Iowa, and Andrea Hirsch Olson, 53, of New Meadows, Idaho, his second wife Mary Tone Hirsch of Henderson, Nevada, and this two step-daughters Melissa Tone and Lindsey Tone of California.

Dr. Hirsch delivered my two children in the early 80's. He was a wonderful physician and such a nice, caring person. My first child was born on a Wednesday and on Friday Dr. Hirsch recommended I stay in the hospital over the weekend. You don't hear of that anymore. RIP Dr. Hirsch

Dr. Hirsch delivered my daughter 50 years ago; he was my first...and best...gynecologist. He always made me feel as though I were his only patient and that he was always glad to see me. I still measure all physicians' demeanor by his attitude toward his patients. My condolences to his family.

Dr. Hirsch...a remarkable man indeed! He truly cared about his patients. He delivered both my boys. On the second one a partner of his was the one on call - but I didn't know him as well - Dr. Hirsch told the delivery room or whoever it is - to call him when I was close to delivering and he'd be there! And he WAS! I've always been so appreciative of his "bedside manner" so to say. And his sense of humor was unbelievable! My husband has a high regard for him also. He will be in our prayers and his family also. He will be missed!! God bless!!

I met Dr. Mike Hirsch and DR. Milton Mark during my Ob- Gyn residency and was so impressed by their surgical abilities, integrity, patient care, and thoughtfulness that joining their practice was an easy decision. I never regretted that choice. First Milton, now Michael have left us. Their effect on so many will live on. May they both rest in peace.

Dr hirsch delivered my son and daughter 37 years ago. He was such an amazing doctor and human - they don't make them them like him anymore. I remember at my son's birth on June 11977 he came into the delivery room telling everyone about what food they were having at his office picnic. RIP dr hirsch. Joyce

It was with great sadness that I learned this morning of the passing of Michael Hirsch. I first met Michael in 1973 when I was a resident in Ob/gyne at the University of Iowa. He was a wonderful teacher and role model for a young physician. I came to know him much better when I returned to Des Moines in 1975 to practice. In my two years in practice in Des Moines no one could have been more supportive in helping me to become successful. Not only was Michael a wonderful physician but he was extremely sensiitive to the feelings of both his patients as well as his friends. His sense of humor was terrific and I am going to miss knowing his not here. My heartfelt condolences to Mary and The rest of Michael's family

Nearly 40 years ago, when I had no insurance and a low paying job, Dr. Hirsch said I should have surgery. When I explained that I couldn't afford it, he said he would do it for free because it was that important (and he did.) They don't make them like that anymore. He will be missed.
