Michael Schomer Obituary
Des Moines
Michael F. Schomer, 87, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Union Park Health Services in Des Moines. He was born on October 4, 1923 in Panama, the son of Pete and Josephine (Thielen) Schomer.
Michael served in the United States Navy from 1940 to 1946. He retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad at the age of 62, after 30 plus years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children, Gary (Jodie), David, Bruce (Annie), Don (Julie), Jeanette (Mike) Kirkpatrick, Charlotte (Roger) Jaschke, Lois, Mark-deceased (Michelle), Marcene (Frank) De Stefano; 13 grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters; sister, Jean Schechinger; and his brother, Ralph Schomer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2011, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to service time on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church or Union Park Health Services - attention: Activities Department, in loving memory of Michael.On-line condolences may be made to HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I lived next door to the Schomers as a child, was friends with all the kids but always had a level of respect for Mickey that was greater than the fathers of my other friends because he had a quiet but deffinate presence that was not threatening but carried the authority that let you know that you had better behave. Jean, with her always friendly and loving ways, made then the perfect team. I am so very sad to learn of his passing. Let God bless him and the entire Schomer family.

I'm sure Mickey now enjoys the vision of the face of God. Bill and Dr. Bob are heartily welcoming him. He was blessed with a very fine famiy. I will offer Mass for him next week.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mickey's passing...he is in a beautiful place now...I have nothing but great childhood memories of time spent at the Schomers...I'm pretty sure we tested Mickey's patience, but now that I'm older I'm thinking he had to have had a HUGE amount of patience!! RIP...
