Patsy Evans Obituary
Colfax - Patsy Ruth (Owens) Evans was born in Colfax, Iowa on August 29, 1927, to Vera and Dave Owens, and died on February 15, 2018, at Bethany Life in Story City, Iowa, where she had resided since November.
A 1945 graduate of Colfax High School, she married Frank B. Evans on September 4, 1949. They were married until his death in 1993. In 1951, they welcomed a daughter, Mary Kathryn (Katy), who preceded her in death in 2014.
Patsy resided in Colfax until 2012. Before she married she worked at Maytag in Newton. She served as the organist of the First United Methodist Church, presiding over almost 60 years' worth of Sunday services, weddings, funerals, and holidays. She was heavily involved in United Methodist Women, and served as a delegate to the United Methodist Church of Iowa annual conference for many years. She was also a frequent accompanist for the Order of the Eastern Star, serving alongside her husband when he was Worthy Grand Patron. In addition to her church activities, she was a lifelong member of PEO and served several terms on the board of the Colfax Library. She also thoroughly enjoyed listening to elementary students read, among her numerous community activities.
In 2012, her declining health necessitated that she move to Ames to live with her daughter's family. Upon her daughter's death, she moved into Bickford Senior Living in Ames, where she remained until her move to Bethany.
Patsy is survived by her son-in-law, Matt Darbyshire, of Ames, and her granddaughter, Megan Darbyshire, also of Ames. Additionally, she is survived by her brother David (Margaret) Owens of Fairbank, and nephew Mark (Becky) Owens, also of Fairbank, and their daughters, Kara and Gina.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Colfax United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 until service time on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made in Patsy's name to the First United Methodist Church in Colfax or the Colfax Public Library.
