Paul Lewis Obituary
Des Moines
Paul Ray Lewis, beloved husband, father and grandfather "Opa" lost his long battle with cancer on February 11, 2014.
Paul was born on February 20, 1942 to Herbert and Pauline Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating from East High School he joined the US Air Force and served four years as a Firefighter.
Paul continued his career with the City of Des Moines Fire Department, joined the Des Moines Airport Fire Dept. in 1973 and retired as Assistant Chief in 1996.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Pauline and sister, Arlene Lewis.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Christel; daughters, Bettina (Steve) Ray and Kerstin (Michael) Stults; grandsons, Adam (Leah) Ray, Tanner Lewis Stults and Dalton Lewis Stults; brother, James (Jean) Lewis, many loving family members, longtime friends and great neighbors.
Services for Paul will be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 17 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service until the leaving for a 3 p.m. graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
Donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League or Unity Point Hospice.

As family members know, my cousin Paul and I both graduated from East High in 1961. Before that, we used to take bike and hiking trips out of Des Moines city limits and had a good time and some adventure. After East High, we took separate paths, but managed to see and talk during my many family visits to Iowa. I feel fortunate that in recent years I was able to have additional visits with Paul. He will be missed.

Was saddened to hear of Paul's passing but know that he had been ill for some time. So many memories flooded back as I recalled our times together years ago. Christel I hope you know that I have been praying for you; Bettina; and Kerstin since hearing the news. May you be comforted by the presence of a Loving God that wishes only to know his children and have them walk in love and peace. Will hopefully see you on Monday.
