Ottumwa

Richard L. "Dick" Carothers, 80, of 2633 Marilyn Rd., died at 1 a.m. March 30, 2015 at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center in Ottumwa.

He was born December 9, 1934 near Corning, IA to Leslie and Maxine Cox Carothers. He married Helen R. Luko on August 30, 1964.

A graduate of Corning High School, he earned a B.A. from Northwest Missouri State University, and a M.A. in Social Work from University of Missouri. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea.

He moved to Ottumwa in 1963 to work for the Iowa Department of Human Services. For 24 years he worked for the Southern Iowa Mental Health Center, serving as Director for 20 years, retiring in 1997.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield.
