Madrid
Richard Eppert, 88, died October 23, 2016, at the Madrid Home Communities in Madrid, Iowa where he had been a resident for the past several months.
Richard was born October 24, 1927 in Boone, Iowa to Harry and Zoe (Long) Eppert. After graduating from Luther High School in 1945 he enlisted in the Army and served until his discharge in 1947. Not long after his discharge he married Helen Henderson on January 4, 1948 and began his life long career of farming east of Luther, Iowa.
Richard is survived by his wife Helen; four children, daughter Barbara White of Bowmanville, Ontario, twin sons Roland (Deb) of Ankeny, Ronald (Jackie) of Madrid and son Craig (Julie) of Luther; two sisters, Ruth Schulte and Jeannette Diljak. Also eight grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26 at the Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel located at 202 S. Market St in Madrid, Iowa, from 5-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's UCC located at 115 S Cedar St on Thursday, October 27, at 10:30 am.

Several people have mentioned my Dad's unique sense of humor. One time my youngest son Craig was visiting. He was too young to drive but he could reach the steering wheel & brakes of Dad's pick up truck. I forget what Dad was doing but he let my son drive slowly so Dad could take things off the bed. He stressed to Craig that he was not, under any circumstances, to tell my Mom that he let Craig drive because Dad would be in big trouble. Later, Craig was doing something with Mom that required her to get in and out of the truck and she said "I wish Grandpa was here to drive this so I wouldn't have to keep getting in and out. All a set up of course, but Craig never said a word.
