Richard "Rick" Wayne McBee

Rick McBee, 52, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 1, 2016. He was born in Des Moines on June 19, 1963, to Jerry and Judy McBee.

Rick worked at the Des Moines International Airport as a mechanic for many years. He was a member of Teamsters Union and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 234. He enjoyed monster trucks, NASCAR, target shooting, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Terri; children, Brandi (Travis) Tammen, Brittani McBee, and Dillyn McBee; grandchildren, Braiden, Taelynn, and Tripp; his father, Jerry McBee; sister, Debbie (Arlin) Purdie; as well as his brothers, Bill (Jody) McBee and Stephen (Paula) McBee. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Friday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

I grew up in the Highland Park area, and was friends with Rick throughout our school years. I lost touch with him over the years, but never forgot about him. I spoke with him briefly when I was helping put together a class of 81' North High School reunion, and he sounded like the same Rick I knew years before. When we lost Rick, the memories came flooding back. Walking home from school with another friend of ours, and just hanging out. Rick was always a happy guy, and I always remember him that way. I hope you are all doing well and finding peace!
