Richard (Rick) Thorson, 62, passed away unexpectedly August 5, 2013. He was born March 29, 1951 in Newton, IA to Thomas Thorson Jr, and Wilma (Lewis) Thorson and spent his youth in Des Moines. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, and earned a degree at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Rick was employed in the Environmental Air Quality division of the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department.
Rick is survived by his wife, Sara, two daughters, Jamie Thorson and Jessie (Thompson) Herman and grandson Brinson Herman, all of Lincoln; his Mother Wilma, Sister Jodi (Scott) Eichacker, all of Urbandale, IA; sisters-in-law Linda Lofgren of Lincoln and Karen Haggert of Grand Island, NE; father-in-law James Haggert of Grand Island; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Thorson Jr., and brother Thomas Lynn Thorson.
Celebration of Life will be Monday, August 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Church, 1015 Lancaster Lane, Lincoln, NE. Visitation will be Sunday, August 11 from 12 to 8 p.m. at Wadlow-Rozanek Funeral Home, 5200 "R" St., Lincoln. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation to be made in Rick's name. To the Thorson family. I worked at the EPA office in KC and with Rick on air quality and enforcement issues. It was always a pleasure to work with Rick. I respected his work ethic and his years of experience. I know his talents will be missed by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department. So sorry for your loss.
