Robert E. (Bob) Frampton, age 93, died November 23, 2015 in Urbandale, Iowa. Visitation will be at Iles Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Rd., Des Moines, 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. following visitation, also at Iles Westover Funeral Home. A private burial will be at Masonic Cemetery, Des Moines, immediately following services.

Bob was born in Binger, Oklahoma, on August 30, 1922 to Cecil Meyer Frampton and George A. Frampton. He attended school in Des Moines, Iowa and Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from Drake University with a degree in Business Administration. Bob interrupted his studies to enlist in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and was stationed with the Fifteenth Air Force, 455th Bomber Group in Cerignola, Italy. He flew a B-24 bomber on nine missions, mostly to Germany and Austria, and was honorably discharged with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Returning from one of these missions, they noticed that their B-24 had 57 holes from flak. None of their crew was ever wounded.

After the war, Bob joined E.I. Sargent Quarries, Inc., and eventually became Treasurer of the company. He was active in banking, having served a number of years as Chairman of the Board of Cornhusker Bank in Lincoln, Nebraska. He had a life long love of farming and the miracle of life that is agriculture, with his involvement with a family farm business in Madison, Polk, Greene, Boone, Cerro Gordo, and Worth Counties in Iowa.

Bob was married in 1947 to Betty Jane Hall, and they had a very happy life together for 54 years. They had one son, George H. Frampton. They both enjoyed their summer cabin on Dogtooth Lake in Canada, spending time fishing, boating and enjoying the outdoors. Betty died in 2001 from complications of heart surgery.

Bob married Eloise Sargent Cram in September 2005 and they have resided since at Deerfield Retirement Center in Urbandale. They enjoyed a number of overseas trips together and until recently spent winters in Florida. Bob's life was greatly enriched by Eloise and her children Scott Cram, Carolyn Cram Larsen, Randy Cram, and Judy Cram Spence and extended family. Bob and Eloise recently celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary.

Bob had a creative, analytical mind, and a gift for mechanical and artistic endeavors. He was a member of Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. He hand built the steel figure of Christ which is so prominent on the South end of the church facing Douglas Avenue. The figure of Christ was designed by Betty's sister, Doris Faaborg. He worked also in stained glass, with a number of very fine pieces he made from scratch. One little quirk of his personality was that he would master a skill, and then be done with it, moving on to something else. He had an innate hunger for knowledge, taking satisfaction in the know-how more than in the objects he had created. He could fix just about anything, a necessary skill in the summers he and Betty spent in Canada on Dogtooth Lake.

Bob is survived by his wife, Eloise Frampton; his son, George H. Frampton and daughter-in law, Sue Frampton of Clive, Iowa; his granddaughter, Cathy Frampton Schulze and her husband, Matthew Schulze both of Centennial, Colorado, and his grandson, George A. Frampton and his wife, Tahra Frampton both of Johnston, Iowa, and seven great grandsons, Hans R. Schulze and Gabe K. Schulze, both of Centennial, Colorado, and George W. (Will) Frampton, Charlie H. Frampton, Sam R. Frampton, Thomas G. Kimm, and Owen K. Frampton, all of Johnston, Iowa. Bob is also survived by his sister, Alice Dittman, of Lincoln, Nebraska, his sister-in-law, Doris Faaborg of Clive, Iowa, and two nieces and two nephews, Linda Tullis of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Dawn Dittman Coronado of Austin, Texas, John Dittman of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Doug Dittman of Raymond, Nebraska.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Deerfield Health Center, and Wesleylife Hospice, who provided thoughtful and loving care. In lieu of flowers, those who wish are asked to donate to the Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church as a memorial to Robert E. Frampton.
