Ruby Jeanette (Brooks) Modlin was born December 1, 1957 in Des Moines, Iowa to Gaylord and Ruby (Martindale) Brooks. She loved spending time with her family and was a warm and giving person. Ruby operated a day care out of her home, becoming a second mother to countless children. She enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows, traveling, and all animals.
Ruby passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 while awaiting a liver transplant at the age of 56. She is survived by her family: loving husband of 22 years, Ray "Hopper" Modlin; her sons, Ronnie Snider (Ericka McConnell), Shawn (Melissa) Snider, and Jeffrey (Katherine) Smith; seven grandchildren; siblings, Dianne, Craig (Debbie), Kim (Tim), and Tammy; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Deborah.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 28 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW, Altoona with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Ruby,you were the protector to many people from the bully.that is the one thing I admired most of you.then you became family when Kim married my uncle Tim.we had many good times.I love ya sassy pants.
