Funeral services for Ruth Alzina Mathis, 96, who passed away on, Saturday, November 28, 2009, will be held, on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway in West Des Moines at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth was born September 8, 1913, to Frank and Carrie Williamson on a farm near Bondurant. She was united in marriage to Taylor Mathis in 1933. Together, they farmed in the Bondurant area for over 50 years. Ruth's greatest gift was the unconditional love she shared with family and friends. Ruth and Taylor were married for 68 years until his death in 2001.
She is survived by her son, John (Mary) of West Des Moines; six grandchildren Laura (Clint) Bailey of Mitchellville, Jill (Brian) Lathrum of Kansas City, Beth Hick of Bondurant, Brian (Lori) Mathis of West Des Moines, Brad Mathis of Minneapolis, Addison Drake of Ames; nine great-grandchildren, Carrie Boyer, Marc Bailey, Anna and Alaina Lathrum, Tristan and Briley Hick, Taylor, Jacob, and Jackson Mathis; two great- great- grandchildren, Landon Boyer and Micah Bailey.
Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Glen, Henry, and Paul Williamson; sister, Doris Norton; husband, Taylor; son, Robert; and infant daughter, Joan.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ben Collins and nurse Elaine for their home visits. Their service allowed Ruth to remain at home for her last years. Numerous home health aides and Iowa Health Hospice also provided Ruth with exceptional care and support.
