Shirley Ballard Obituary
Ankeny
Shirley A. Ballard, daughter of Wilbur and Mary (Hall) Conkel born 1941 in Ankeny, Iowa and she passed away July 23, 2017 in Des Moines, Iowa.
She Graduated from Ankeny High School and Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
Shirley was a detective for Polk County Sheriff, a communications operator with Ankeny Police Department and retired as an Investigator with the Polk County Attorney's Office.
Survivors are her husband, Dennis L. Ballard; daughter, Melissa (Dave) Jones; stepchildren, Darin (Susan) Ballard, Jerrine (Joe) Lenaghan, Mary Ballard, Donald (Amy) Ballard and Jennifer Ballard; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; brother, Sid (Barb) Conkel; sister, Sue (Dennis) Nelson and many special nephews, nieces and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents; Wilbur and Mary Conkel and son, Devlin Reynolds.
Memorial contributions can be made to Taylor House.
Celebration of Shirley's Life will be from 4pm-7pm., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Vittoria Lodge, 7200 Lodge, 7200 NW 2nd Ave., Ankeny, Iowa.

Best wishes and sympathy to Conkel and BALLARD families. I have known Shirley for years and years. She was at Skateland when I was learning to skate. I am sure she will be missed by many.

I remember Shirley from Ankeny Skateland back in the mid-fifties. She, along with Janice, Karen, and others are among my fondest memories. May she Rest In Peace.
