Shirley Dakovich Obituary
West Des Moines
Shirley Ann Dakovich, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 21, 2017 at Methodist West Hospital. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Iles Westover Chapel. A rosary will begin at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, Wednesday, October 25 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Shirley was born on July 27, 1925 in Ely, Iowa, to parents Aloysius and Elizabeth Baschnagel. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and attended Coe College both in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. On June 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Dr. Milton J. Dakovich at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Shirley was a Lady of the Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was a member of the Auxiliary to the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association. Shirley was a generous volunteer for many years at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a long time member of Des Moines Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf and bowling. Her greatest joy was her family and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Dr. Milton J. Dakovich; children, Milt (Kim) Dakovich of Waterloo, IA, Ann (Rocco A.) Pigneri of Louisville, KY and Bob (Shannon) Dakovich of Delafield, WI; 12 grandchildren, Shari, Kelly, Austin, Chance, Brigette, Rocco J., Danielle, Andrea, Scott, Stephanie, Grant and Cole; sister, Carol Cunningham of Urbandale. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Josita McKee.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

My deepest condolences to you, Milt, and your family. My memories of Shirley, you, and John, are all wrapped up in happiness and joy. We had great times and great friendship with each other. We were blessed to have the time together. Thank you God, and thank you Milt.
