Stanley E. Sheldon, 89, of Webster City, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster Chapel, with Pastor Alan Sheldon officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Stanley Earl Sheldon, son of Earnest and Viola Byerley Sheldon, was born June 13, 1923 at Taylor, NE., eighth of twelve children. The family moved to Kearney, NE in1924. He received his education from the Kearney Community Schools, graduating in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in February of 1943 and served with the 435th Troop Carrier Group, 76 Tactical Squadron in seven major battles, including Ardennes, South Europe. He was discharged in 1945. On July 6, 1946, he married Marjorie Maxine Adcock in Kansas. They moved to Jefferson, Iowa in 1948, then to Webster City in 1951. Stan loved his job as a livestock feed salesman with the Moorman Manufacturing Company for 35 years. After retirement in 1987, he become active in political interests and liked going for walks. Stan loved sports and was an accomplished softball player. He won the decathlon event at the Senior Olympics in Santa Barbara, CA in 1973. They moved to Southfield Wellness Community in November of 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter Sue Schwarz of Polk City; brothers, Carroll and Sidney Sheldon, both of Kearney; Darrell Sheldon of Alamagordo, New Mexico; several nieces and nephews.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd, Merl, Harold and Leon Sheldon; sisters, Beulah Brust, Verna Sands, Doretha Griffer and Violet Smithburg.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Webster City; American Legion Post # 191, former member of the Webster City Elks, was a Nebraska Cornhusker football fan, he and Marj attended many games in Lincoln. Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ in Webster City or the American Heart Association.
