Thomas Kinney Obituary
West Des Moines
Thomas Kinney, 89, passed away on October 10, 2013. A private Catholic mass will be held on Saturday, October 12, at Sacred Heart Church in West Des Moines, with interment on Monday, October 14, at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery, Adel, Iowa.
Thomas was born April 30, 1924 in Des Moines to Leo and Pauline Kinney. He lived on Lake Panorama and in West Des Moines most of his life. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1942 and attended Drake University after the war.
Following high school Thomas entered the armed services and became a Heavy Bomber Navigator. He served with the 447th Bomb Group, flying missions in the B-17 Flying Fortress deep into Germany. Thomas was commissioned a 1st. Lt. Officer after the war ended.
Thomas married the lovely Virginia Hanrahan on September 20, 1947. They have five beautiful daughters, Linda Patterson (Jay), Susan Usher, (Don Dumdei), Jan, Karen, and Kelly Furlong (Matt) and one brother, James Kinney, San Antonio, Texas. He was always so proud of and enjoyed his four grandchildren and six great-grand children. In life Tom enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, following his daughter Karen's race horses and was an avid collector of family photos.
Thomas's career was in the automobile and car wash industry. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS.66675.

Sending my love to all of you. I have such fond memories of him, His eyes, his smile, and letting Jan go to Pizza Hut after cutting the grass on Saturdays!! He survived 5 girls, so we know he is in heaven! I am with you all in prayer as you take him to his final resting place.
