Velma Hicks Obituary
Mrs. Hicks was born on October 9, 1922 in Des Moines to Carey and Edith Brown. She was a retired meat wrapper and worked for Super Valu Foods. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, spending time with her grandchildren, and church activities. She was member of First Federated Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Diane Wolfe of Windsor Heights, Ramona Rains of Bondurant, Debbie Young of Houston, TX, and Cindy Herrmann of Arlington, TX; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Mary Ellen, Gretchen, and Jack and her grandson Scott.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, January 8 at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines). Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to First Federated Church.

I regret that I am unable to attend Aunt Velma's Funeral Services. Ever so grateful that I had the privilege of talking with her on the phone just hours before she left this world to join her LORD. Undoubtedly there was a grand reunion with her family in Heaven. I will join them when my days are spent and we shall join in praising the King of Kings for all Eternity. I love you Aunt Velma. Thank you so much for making my doll. I think of you each time I look at her.

sure enjoyed the short time i was able to spend with your mother - her smile and joy were present even when she wasn't feeling 100%. her candle may now be extinguished but her light goes on for you and through you. may you all find a peace that passes human understanding thru the days ahead.
