VIVIAN CLARICE WRIGHT
Urbandale
Clarice Wright, 85, passed away peacefully at Hospice Kavanagh House on January 17 after complications with Alzheimer's. Clarice was born February 19, 1923 in Alvord, IA to Walter and Clara Parks. Clarice was the youngest of eleven siblings.
She worked for the Civil Service at the Presidio in San Francisco, was a key punch operator in Chicago, worked at the Iowa State House and Urbandale Middle School. Early in her life, she rode and broke horses with her brother, Ivan. She was a member of TTT Chapter CQ.
Clarice was hardworking, beyond practical, and brilliantly funny. Along with her quick wit, she had a giving and compassionate heart. She devoted her life to her three girls and two grandchildren. She loved animals, a good book and was a gifted joke teller. She found great joy in baking a pie and goodies for her family and friends, a neighbor or a school function. Clarice lived by the "Golden Rule" and by example, showing us that caring for others keeps life in perspective and peace in your heart.
Clarice is survived by her three daughters, Michelle Wright of London, England, Kim (Buck) Jones of Urbandale and Melanie (Mark Ohlson) Wright of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Satchel and Riley and several nieces and nephews. She will miss her cat Lloyd and her grandpuppy, Blaze. Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings and her grandson, Max.
A Celebration of Life Reception is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the Urbandale Senior Center. Visitation (and pie!) immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Alzheimer's Association of Iowa.
