DON ADAMS Obituary

ADAMS DON Former NBA and ABA professional basketball player, died at Beaumont Hospital on December 25, 2013. He was selected in the 8th round of the 1970 NBA draft by the San Diego Rockets. He was traded to the Atlanta Hawks where he played from 1971 until 1972. From 1972 until 1975, he played for the Detroit Pistons. In 1975, he played 2 seasons with the Spirits of St. Louis (ABA) and ended his career with the Buffalo Braves where he played from 1975-1977. Following his professional basketball career, Don worked as a Financial Advisor for Lincoln Financial Advisors. Don made his home in Southfield, Michigan with his wife Mary and son's Don Jr. (DJ) and Damar. He is survived by his high school sweet heart and wife of 42 years, Mary Adams; two sons, Don Jr. (Angela) and Damar; four granddaughters, Anisa, Chelsea, Jessica, and Carmen; four sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. Don was born November 27, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended South Fullton High School and Northwestern University (1967-1970). A Funeral is planned for Monday, December 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church located at 18700 James Couzens Fwy., Detroit, Michigan. The family will receive visitors at the Swanson Funeral Home, 14751 West McNichols Rd., Detroit, Michigan, Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Atlanta, Georgia later in the week.
