EDOUARD KESNER Obituary

Age 86 of Romulus. Died June 27, 2006. Beloved husband of Martha O'Brien. Dear father of Howard (Alice) Kesner. Grandfather of four, great-grandfather of one. Preceded in passing by first wife: Rosalind (Fogel). Mr. Kesner grew up in New York City. He made his debut at the age of seven, playing the Paginini Violin Concerto with the Stamford Symphony (Conn), receiving rave reviews. Mr. Kesner was a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, and studied with Aaron Hirsch, Samuel Gardner, Jacque Fracht and Leopold Auer. A musician of widely contrasting talent, he was equally at home in either the classic or jazz idiom. He played other instruments such as the piano, trombone and viola. He had performed frequently on radio and television and had been involved with many recordings. He had played with the St. Louis Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, Les Brown, the Dorsey Brothers and under such great conductors as Bruno Walter, Erich Leinsdorf, Vladmir Golschmann, Leopold Stokowski, Paul Paray, and various others. In 1951 he was invited by Mischa Mischakoff to play principal second violin in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for 35 years. He had been Concert master of the Dearborn Orchestra during its 30 years. He taught at Oakland University, and Wayne State University. Ed was on the staff of Motown Records and a lot of recordings were used in films. He also played with the NBC Symphony under Toscanini, who was one of the most famous "world-class" conductors that ever lived. There will be a Memorial Service for Mr. Kesner Friday, June 30th at 7:00 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church 11160 Olive St., Romulus. Arrangements by Crane Funeral Home 36885 Goddard Rd.
