George Winkler Obituary

George N. Winkler

George N. Winkler, February 23, 2021. Age 97 of Allen Park.

Loving husband of the late Miriam (Keppen) and the late Pat (Long). Dear father of Tom (Judy), Sandy (Alan Hoback), and Shari (Chris) Atkins. Kind grandfather of 6 and great-grandfather of 11. Born in 1923 in Detroit to Anna and Arnold, George is the last of the Winkler siblings (Dorie, Ed, Wally, Trudy, Donnie, and John) and was a favorite uncle of his many nieces and nephews. George was a proud WW-II army veteran of the China-Burma-India theater. After retiring from Wolverine Tube and the City of Allen Park, George delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years, and volunteered for Bridging Communities, driving seniors in southwest Detroit to appointments. The family suggests memorials to Trinity-St. Mark's United Church of Christ, 9315 W. Fort St., Detroit, MI 48209 or The Care Team Hospice Foundation, 30600 Northwestern Hwy, Suite 245, Farmington Hills, MI 48334. Private funeral service will take place 3:30 pm Friday at Weise Funeral Home, 7210 Park, Allen Park (313-382-1150). Join the service via Livestream on Friday. Private interment at Woodmere Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Please sign guestbook or join Livestream at www.weisefuneralhome.com.
