Jack VanImpe Obituary

Dr. Jack Van Impe

Renowned evangelist and Bible prophecy expert Dr. Jack Van Impe, 88, was welcomed home to heaven on Saturday, January 18, 2020 received by the blessed Savior and Lord he had faithfully served in ministry for more than 70 years.

Dr. Van Impe was born February 9, 1931, in Freeport, Michigan, to Oscar and Marie Louise Van Impe. Oscar was a beer-hall musician who taught young Jack to play the accordion, and the pair performed in pubs until they dedicated their lives to Christ.

Jack graduated from Detroit Bible College in 1951 and married Rexella Shelton, the love of his life, in 1952. He received his start in ministry from Dr. Billy Graham, preaching and performing at Youth for Christ events.

Drs. Jack and Rexella Van Impe presented live evangelism events for 12 years, conducting 260 citywide crusades and 800 week-long church crusades that led some 600,000 to be saved or restored to relationship with Christ.

A good and faithful servant of the Lord, Dr. Van Impe was known as "The Walking Bible" because of his prodigious Scripture memorization. He memorized more than 22,000 verses and inspired countless people to memorize God's Word as well.

A passion for Bible prophecy inspired the Van Impes to launch Jack Van Impe Ministries and their television program, Jack Van Impe Presents, in 1980, with both serving as co-hosts.

For decades, Dr. Jack and Rexella's program was one of the highest-rated Christian programs on TV. It was broadcast to as many as 25,000 cities each week, and more than 150 countries worldwide. Through Jack Van Impe Ministries' television and Internet outreach, Dr. Van Impe led another 7,000,000 souls to Christ.

Memorial Services celebrating Dr. Van Impe's extraordinary life and ministry will be Saturday, February 1, 2020, with a viewing at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. at Woodside Bible Church, Troy Campus, 6600 Rochester Road, Troy, MI 48085. There will be a public visitation on Friday, January 31, 2020, from 3-8 p.m. at the church.

He will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife, his family and friends, and his viewers. The Jack Van Impe Presents program and Jack Van Impe Ministries will continue. Rexella and the board of directors request prayer as they move forward without Jack.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider a charitable donation to the ministry, which can be found at JVIM.com.

I am so sorry to hear about Jack's passing, my family loved him. I found him on the radio back in the late 60's early 70's when I lived in Michigan he was such a blessing to me. I bought as many cosset tapes as I could and used them to spread God's word.. I know God has him in his loving arms.

I love both you guys. I know our Lord Jesus Christ will be taking care of you. Stay strong and walk in faith like you have all your life. I'm so glad I'll be able to see Jack on YouTube, that's great. He's probably so thrilled being with the Lord. He ran the race that the apostle Paul talked about. He inspired me, he never gave up...now you shouldn't either. Continue his legacy. With love in Christ Jesus.

I first met Dr. Van Impe and Rexella at Dr. Jeff DeClaire's Physical rehab center in Rochester! I received a left knee replacement 2 weeks previousy, and Dr. Jack and Rexella were touring the facility. I recognized them and introduced myself. He had both knees replaced a week later. Two weeks later, he and Rexella were there for Dr. Jacks last rehab session!! He teased me about still being there, and he was going home!! I reminded him he had millions of people praying for him, and I had about 25! I've watched JVIM for 30 years and he was truly the most Godliest man I have ever known. Well done, thou good and faithful servant!!

To our dear friend Rexella and all the family and loved ones! Our prayers for comfort and peace are with you!
Our hearts are saddened to hear of Dr Jack's passing yet we're rejoicing that he is in Heaven with Jesus and all those that have gone on before! He is now dancing on those streets of Gold! What a day of rejoicing it will be when we that have accepted JESUS CHRIST as our LORD AND SAVIOR are reunited together in Heaven!! As I, Nancy write this I am remembering my Daddy, Samuel Mackey who passed away 1 year ago today at 100 yrs old! He I'm sure is chatting with Dr Jack as daddy listened to Dr Jack playing his accordion and Daddy learned to play too! My Daddy loved Dr Jack Van Impe also!
Just to know that we will soon be reunited together makes my heart happier! For this world is not my home but my eternal HOME IS HEAVEN!!
Thank you Dr Van Impe for all your inspiration you gave to us!
I, Nancy also have had the honor and privilege to work for the Ministry there in Michigan for approximately 6 years and I just count it all joy!! I will always cherish you in my heart! God Bless you! And Rexella, we so love you! May you carry on the legacy that you have both made and continue on as long as the Lord tarries!!
