MICHAEL SLYZIUK Obituary

retired businessman, died October 10, 2003 after a short illness. He was 85. He was born September 18, 1918, in Grandview, Manitoba. He grew up participating in many sports and played semi-pro baseball. He served in the Canadian Army in the early 1940's. He moved to Windsor, Ontario and married his wife Rose in 1942. He became an avid curler and joined the Detroit Curling Club in 1947. He served as President in 1968-69. He represented the State of Michigan ten times in the U. S. Nationals. In 1958 and 1963, as skip, he won the U. S. Men's National Championship. In 1963, he finished second in the World Cup Championship representing the United States. In 1979, he was inducted in the Michigan Amateur Sports Hall of Fame. He was successful in his life as a self-employed businessman. He recently moved with his wife Rose from Sun City, FL to Denver, CO. He was survived by his wife of 59 years Rose; a son Kenneth of Denver, CO; a daughter Linda Renda of Clarkston, MI; five grandchildren and two sisters Stella Kukhahn of Northville, MI and Delores Sauve of Livonia, MI. Services Saturday 10:00 a.m. at Morris-Sutton Funeral Home, Windsor, Ontario. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peters and Pauls Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Box 165, Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada R7N2V1.
