NORMA LAENEN Obituary

LAENEN NORMA 87, of St. Clair Shores, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2015, surrounded by her family. Norma was born in Grosse Pointe on March 23, 1928 to Camille and Emma (Gilbert) DeMeulemeester. At age 14 she and her family moved to St. Clair Shores to a home that Norma loved and continued to live in her entire life. She married the love of her life, Remie Laenen, on February 19, 1949. He preceded her in death on their 63rd Wedding Anniversary, February 19, 2012. Together they raised five children, Gary (Carol) Laenen, Rick (Diane) Laenen, Robert Laenen, Carrie (Dennis) Pleva, and Kim (Linda) Laenen. Norma is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, and David Laenen, Rick (Laura) Laenen, Jr., and Kelli Schafer, Melissa Reid, Remie (Melissa) Pleva, and Suzan Pleva, Lauren (Adam) Woznak, Robert and Kayla Laenen; and 10 great-grandchildren, Emilee, Elizabeth and Andrew Laenen, Alyssa and Madeline Schafer, Natalya Reid and Trent Pleva, Makayla, Marshall and soon to be baby Woznak. In her earlier years Norma was an avid tennis player, golfer and bowler, continuing to bowl on a Thursday league until the time of her death. A few of her favorite pastimes were listening to Rush Limbaugh, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. In lieu of flowers or donations, Norma would have loved to have you spend time with your family, and treat them to something special, thinking of her and her love of family. A memorial service honoring Norma's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at St. Margaret's of Scotland Church, St. Clair Shores.
