Fort Worth, Texas - Dr. Basil Bernstein, 74, passed away surrounded by family. He was born in Worcester, South Africa to Barnett and Rose Bernstein. He served in the Army in South Africa and attended medical school at the University of Cape Town.
Dr. Bernstein was a family practice physician for over 40 years, serving many generations of families in Fort Worth. His work was his passion and he experienced great joy from diagnosing, counseling, and treating patients. He also enjoyed travel, reading, Broadway musicals, and shopping.
Loved and adored by all who knew him, he is survived by his children, Linda, Michael, and Jamie; his grandchildren Ethan, Jacob, Elle, and Maddie; and his sister, Fannie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, and his brother, Louis.
Following committal prayers, Basil was laid to rest next to his wife in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery. His family will be having a private memorial service.

I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT DR. BERNSTEIN. BASIL WAS MUCH MORE THAN A DOCTOR. HE WAS A COMPASSIONATE COMFORTER, AND FRIEND. I'VE HAD NUMEROUS DOCTORS, I'M A DISABLED VIETNAM VETERAN. I'VE NOT MET ANY DOCTOR AS DEDICATED TO HIS PATIENTS BASIL. I CONSIDER MYSELF TRULY BLESSED AND HONORED TO HAVE KNOWN HIM. I BELIEVE EVERYONE THAT WAS A PART OF HIS LIFE ARE BETTER PEOPLE BECAUSE OF HIS PRESENTS. I WILL MISS HIM EMINENCELY. LOVE YOU DR. B.

Truely heart broken for everyones loss. This man took amazing care of me and my family for the last 15 years. I considered him a dear friend and my doctor. He helped his patients until the very end, When he could have retired decades ago. Condolences to his family

Dr. B I can´t believe you are gone.
To say you were loved and adored by all who knew you is understatement. I had been under your care for years and years and what you have meant to me is beyond measure. You saved my life Dr. Bernstein. I was on a bad path and thanks to you and your care about people no matter their history or circumstance, changed my life´s trajectory for the better. You weren´t just a doctor you were a friend who genuinely and absolutely cared about each one of his patients. I´ll never forget the day when I was in for my appointment and going through a really rough time with my divorce. You noticed something wasn´t right and even though you had a waiting room full of patients, you stop and closed the door and sat down next to me and didn´t leave until you made sure I knew everything was going to be ok. Thank you for everything. I along with so many will miss you. RIP

Dr. Bernstein has been my doctor for the last 18 years. I am truly heartbroken to find out he passed away. He was kind, cheerful and soft spoken. We talked on a personal level and he always complemented me on my family and their accomplishments. I considered him my friend and I am truly going to miss him. Prayers for his family and friends.

Dr. Bernstein was my PCP for almost 15 years. The moment I first sat and met with him I knew he was going to be my doctor. Over the years we got to know each other on a personal level and shared many many laughs over the years. He would always ask about my kids; my wife and I had twins back in 2018 and he was always excited to see pictures over these years as they've grown. He offered parenting advice that was real and from the heart, advice that I still, and will always, carry with me. He was a very nice man and I am saddened by this news, it hurts as much as the lose of a friend, because he was my friend not just my doctor. But I try and remember the laughs and great conversations we had over the past 15 years and I will celebrate those, as I know he would not want us to be sad. He will be greatly missed and it will be very difficult stepping into the office he built, knowing he will not be in there.
RIP Doctor Bernstein, may we one day meet again in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dr. Bernstein was my Primary Care Physician for almost 30 years. He helped me through so much during that time including my bout with cancer. He was one of the finest people I have met. He knew when it could be a quick visit, and knew when I needed a bit extra time. I will miss you, Dr. Bernstein. May you rest in peace.

Dr. Basil Bernstein, an unexpected loss that hit my heart like a bullet. He was my doctor for almost 8 years. He saved me from so much pain. This pain is far worse than anything else. It was an honor being his patient; he could make me laugh so much even in such pain. I love and miss him tremendously. My heart goes out to his whole remarkable family. He made a permanent impact on this earth and gave so many the chance to do the same. Bless you all at the practice as well, Dr Esther and every familiar face at the entire clinic. Dr. Bernstein was our Dr. for 37 years. He was always kind, understanding and willing to talk. He and I were a year apart so we had a great kinship. I´m so glad that he was the one to care for and advise me on my healthcare needs. I will miss his soft spoken greeting when entering the exam room. Dr. B had a great love of art especially modern art. His only art piece that was different was his recognition of his roots with a painting of a scene in South Africa. I loved him as a Dr. and a man. My sympathy goes out to Dr. Linda and his family. I will miss him tremendously and am forever indebted to him for keeping me healthy.

Dr. Bernstien has helped me change my life and become a productive member of society, not to mention a mother to my children. As a patient of his, he honestly felt like a 2nd father and close friend and I feel his loss so hard. I´m just thankful I told him how much I appreciated his support that last time I saw him, not knowing it was our last. So sorry for his family. I feel your pain like he was my own. Thank you Dr B!

My deepest sympathies to Dr. Linda Bernstein and all of Dr. Bernstein´s family. He was a wonderful person and a pleasure to talk with even when I didn´t feel well at all. He cared for me, my husband, and daughter for so many years, until we all had to leave. I´ve thought of him often and missed him terribly every time I had to see a new doctor in my new town. He will be greatly missed by me and my family. I am grateful our health was looked after by him for at least 30 years and he will not be forgotten for all the times he made me laugh when all I really wanted to do was pull the covers over my head and sleep. Dr. B was such a wonderful man. Our whole family loved him. He took such great care of us. He always spent time with you and was so interested in your life as well as your health. He helped our son Gary through the death of his wife to be. She passed away right before the wedding and Dr B was there for him.

Dr. Bernstein was truly an amazing doctor. I was his patient for 10 years. Several years ago, I once joked with him and asked him if he would live forever so that I would never have to see a different doctor. He laughed and said "I will try my best." I am completely devastated and heartbroken. I feel like I´ve lost someone in my own family. That right there tells you how great of a doctor he was. I will miss him terribly. In God´s name I pray for comfort, strength and peace for all of his family and friends.
