I received an email today from Legacy reminding me of Bernie's passing. I enjoyed re-reading people's memories of him and my own entry 2 years ago. I can't believe it has been that long...he was a kind man and made me laugh. Thinking about you, Bernie, during these strange times. I can only imagine your thoughts and comments about this Coronavirus....

There are some people in one's life that made a difference and even though Bernie was just a small part of my life he actually made a difference because I knew if I ever needed anything I could contact him and he would be there to help. That is the kind of man he was. He always was so nice to me.

I was really saddened to learn of the passing of my friend for many years. I knew Bernie as a teenager and we have kept in touch because of family ties. I would meet him at various family weddings etc. He was always kind and helpful and always went out of his way to spend extra time with me when I was in Dallas.

He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. Knowing him gave me the feeling that I could always come to him with any problems or questions but I never did. He made me and I am sure every one of his friends very special. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Appel -

You will be truly missed. I was fortunate to have met Bernie several times in the 80's while he was the "go-to" expert for everything electronic at Radio Shack.

Rest peacefully Bernie -

I met Bernie when I came to work at City Club. He always had a big smile for me and we would sit and talk as he ate his dinner while Ellen was at Bass Hall. He was ALWAYS upbeat and I learned something new every time we talked. Incredibly nice man. I had been missing him as of late but I knew he was struggling physically. And now he is gone...

A few weeks ago, Bernie took delight in showing me pictures of his family and telling me the story behind each one. He loved his family so much. He then confided that the doctor told him he would need to take it a little slower. He shrugged as if he accepted it. I told him that he'd just have to play by the rules. That's when he laughed and said, I never play by the rules! By all means, he was going to do it like he always hadhe was going to do it his way. He will be missed but never forgotten. My condolences to Ellen and the family that brought him so much joy.

I am saddened to read of Bernie's passing. Some of my fondest business memories are of him in Ft. Worth and also in Las Vegas at CES in the 70's and 80's. I remember fondly how great he and Ellen were as hosts to my late wife, Helene and I when we visited a Cliburn competition.

He was a consummate business man and a real mensch. My condolences to Ellen and the family; I know how much he treasure each of you. May his memory be a blessing to you all.

Bernie used to always tell me that he'd known me since the day I was born. And of course, this is true! He and my father, David Beckerman, worked together at Radio Shack in Boston long before Charles Tandy snapped them both up and relocated them to Fort Worth. I think the move suited Bernie, since he was a larger than life character with a heart as big as Texas.
My deepest sympathy goes out to Ellen. And Arlene and Jerry, I know how proud your dad always was of you both, because he told me every time he saw me!
I have known Bernie for all my life, and I shall remember him with a smile for the rest of it.

A person I fully admired. He was not only a success in business but also a key contributor to his community and the Jewish people. May his memory be a blessing.
