Billy Miller Obituary

Billy Miller, 78, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Arlington.

Graveside service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Miller was a proud native of Hollis, Okla. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After fulfilling his responsibility and being honorably discharged, he worked at various jobs in the service industry.

On Oct. 10, 1953, he eloped to Durant, Okla., to marry Bobbie Jean Jarrell. The newlyweds then moved to Arlington, where Mr. Miller began a long career with the newly-opened General Motors assembly plant, working as an hourly employee, becoming a supervisor until his retirement in 1973.

Mr. Miller enjoyed fishing and had owned homes in both Port Bolivar and Lake Whitney, perfect settings for launching his boat.

He was the ultimate sports fan and never missed a televised sporting event, particularly if the Dallas Cowboys or the University of Oklahoma Sooners were playing football.

Mr. Miller's strong work ethic, frugality and common sense were exemplified in the life he lived. He taught these virtues by example so his children could learn.

The family is most grateful for the compassionate and loving care Mr. Miller received from Baylor Hospital in Dallas and the Mariner Nursing Facility in Arlington, where Mrs. Miller resides.

Survivors: Wife of 51 years, Bobbie Miller, to whom he was completely devoted and lovingly cared for until his health began to decline; daughters, Susan Miller Goodson of Athens and Jeannie Elizabeth of Dallas; son, William Raymond Jarrell and wife, Nancy of Cleburne; grandchildren, Emily Gretchen Goodson of Fort Worth, Laura Hayley Goodson of Arlington, Shane Jarrell, Jody Baker and Shelley Deitrich, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; four great-grandchildren, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Harris of Dana Point, Calif.

To the family,

I am so sorry for the loss of Uncle B.J. I have many memories of him that I will cherish forever. I remember when mom and I would go to Uncle B.J. and Aunt Bobbie's house and we would play cards and eat BlueBell ice cream. I would always remember when Uncle B.J. and I would play Tick, he would always say "How do you spell tick?" before he would lay down his cards. I'm glad that we had a lot of memories together and I will cherish them forever. You all are in my prayers.

Susan, Jeannie, and Little Bill,

I wanted you to know that all of you are in mine and Chelsea's prayers. I've been remembering, as a child, the times I spent with Aunt Bobbie and Uncle Bill in Port Bolivar and then as an adult in Whitney. I can honestly say those were some of the best times of my life. Between the cooking, card playing, and screaming at the T.V. whether it happened to be the Cowboys or the Rangers playing - it was always a good time. I always felt welcome and never felt like a guest in their house.

Uncle Bill was a good man with a very big heart. It is comforting to know that he is at peace now with our Lord. In my heart I know that "Aunt Dip" will watch over him also. He will always be remembered with a smile.

Your Cousin,

Jo Anne
