Bruce Pittman Obituary

Bruce Alan Pittman, 53, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014. Memorial service: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 15, at Christ Church Irving, 1750 E Airport Fwy., Irving, 75062-4825, for family and friends. Alan was born in Dallas to Bruce and Jeanette Pittman, and lived in Dallas, Sugar Land, and San Diego. Alan was intelligent and loved people. He worked as a computer hardware engineer, but moved into sales as companies recognized his excellent conversational skills, that provided the opportunity for him to travel much of the world. He always kept up with current technologies and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with people. He made friends easily; he loved stories, and told jokes often. Growing up in Irving, Alan was an excellent wrestler, and earned numerous awards, including the honor of entry in the Texas Wrestlers' Hall of Fame (he graduated in the class of 1978). He was predeceased by his mother, Olen Jeanette Pittman, this previous summer. Alan loved his three children, Chad Pittman and his spouse, Amber Mitchell, of San Diego, Calif., Nic Pittman of Richmond, Va., and Kimberly Lincoln, her husband, Matt, and their son, Jackson, of El Mirage, Ariz. Alan is survived by his father, Bruce Loren Pittman; his sister, Julie Russell, her son, Ryan, and her daughter, Lexi, of North Richland Hills; his former wife of 22 years, Lauree Jackson Marino of Irving; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Alan, you were a good kid at MacArthur, a great young man, an awesome wrestler, and smart, and all the girls were crazy about you. Gone too soon. You were truly respected and loved by all that knew you.

I'm extremely sadden at Alan passing. Alan kicked my butt in wrestling practice. Yet, Alan was a sweet, intelligent man. I remain in awe of Alan. God Bless everyone who loved Alan.

He was my brother and I loved him. My daughter thought he could fix anything. After he left us, she came out of her room with a broken toy crying saying if 'Gallon' were here he would fix it. He can fix anything. He is loved and missed but happy in heaven

I remember Alan when I wrestled for MacArthur in 1976-77. Jack Lawrence and Vic Lawrence were among Alan's friends. Alan was a phenominal athlete and had great character, a true leader in every meaning of the word. I know he grew up to be a wonderful man, too bad he is gone, departed to soon, Alan Rest in Peace, I know you are in Heaven.

Alan was my friend through wrestling. From my earliest memory it seems to me that Alan and I began wrestling at the Irving YMCA very nearly the same time, if not the same night! Alan was always near the same weight class as I was; therefore we learned the art of wrestling by competing against each other. We grew up on the "Nelson Garage Team" under the challenging hand of Jack Nelson and probably would have rather been anywhere else at the time! But both he and I would carry on to become champions in high school and rivals. He and I met several times in the finals in pre-state high school tournament matches and eventually met in the finals at state. I am not at all ashamed to admit the he bested me in the finals of that state championship match. We had won over each other time after time that year culminating in his victory in the state championship. (I did win the conference championship!... but he won state)Let the record so reflect! I could not have lost to an individual of higher caliber! As time went by we lost contact. But i am gratified to know in my heart that my good friend and rival Alan Pittman was a Born Again and saved follower of Jesus Christ! Therefore I am not so much saddened by his passing as i am joyous and eager to see him again once i get my call home! Alan; if there is wrestling in Heaven then we can compete for eternity! God's Blessing to you for your example. May your family receive God's blessing.

February 9, 2014

Hi to all!
I am Alan's sister.
We loved him and we missed him.
The fondest memory I have of Alan (in recent times) is the following:

My son woke up with a cold and didn't want to go to school. He hollered out 'I'm sick! I can't go!.' My 2 year old hollered back, 'Call unGallon, he can fix anything'.

side note: unGallon is two year old for Uncle Alan.

Final note: If a man is known by his friends, Alan was an extremely great man. Thank you so much to all for sharing. I can't express how much peace it gives us.

Tim and I were shocked and so, so saddened to hear the news of Alan's passing. He was one of those wrestlers that we have never forgotten and after 37 years of involvement in the sport, we still think of Alan as one of the best and most memorable. Our prayers go out to Alan's family and friends. We will miss him, too.
