Carl Prokesh Obituary

Carl Hugh Prokesh

November 25, 1937 - December 4, 2025

Fort Worth, Texas - Carl Hugh Prokesh, 88, died peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, in his Fort Worth home, surrounded by family, after a long illness.

Rosary: 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2025, in Greenwood's Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Monday, 29, 2025, at the parish church of St. Mary of the Assumption.

Born on Thanksgiving, November 25, 1937, in Victoria, Texas, to Hugh Prokesh, an Austrian immigrant, and Lavon Edwards Prokesh, an Oklahoma pioneer he, like his wife, Jane, spent his early years leading a near nomadic existence as the son of an oil company executive and geologist.

Eventually settling in Fort Worth, on Clover Lane, he attended Stripling Middle School and Arlington Heights High School, playing Varsity Football and graduating with honors.

Carl led a life of purpose and achievement, his affable and self-effacing persona belieing a complex and remarkable character. Against his father's advice, he pursued the rigorous course studies necessary to obtain an engineering degree from the University of Oklahoma. A blind date there resulted in his engagement and marriage, in 1960, to Mary Jane Dimick.

Carl Prokesh served a two-year stint in the army at Fort Hood, Texas, achieving the rank of Lieutenant with a high security clearance.

In 1962, Carl joined a team of engineers at Texas Instruments who worked on the Mercury Rocket Program engineering NASA's onboard telemetry communications system.

A habitual reader and relentless autodidact, Carl taught himself to be a solid chess player, a mean tennis player with a deadly serve, and a first class sailor, winning races with his San Juan 24' on White Rock Lake. Writing computer code was another short-lived "hobby". Other passions included photography and print making, and gastronomy, a love he shared with his son. In his forties, he achieved another of his ambitions by completing the White Rock Marathon.

Carl's professional career ended in 1997 at Teccor Electronics, as general manager, a position he maintained through several buy-outs.

His retirement years began with the construction of a house in the evocative piney woods of East Texas on Lake Palestine with the assistance of his designer son, Eric Prokesh. There he devoted his time to improving his golf game and co-sponsoring a charity golf tournament he inaugurated along with his wife, Jane, which continues to this day. Carl and Jane were also active fundraisers for their parish church, St. Mary Magdalene.

During his physical decline, he was tirelessly cared for by his devoted daughter, Catherine.

Carl Prokesh was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Dimick Prokesh, who died last November.

He is survived by his two children, Mary Catherine and Carl Eric Prokesh; his son-in-law, Carlos Gomez; brother-in-law, William Earnest Dimick; and nephew, William Earnest Dimick Junior, and his two sons, Nicholas and Noah.
