Charles Mitchell Obituary
Returning to Dallas in 1972, he started with a young Half Price books, and rose though the company, acting as buyer and Texas Bookman Warehouse director.
Retiring early, he pursued a life of reading, writing and curating ART. He wrote for Glasstire, Art in America , Dallas Observer, and Dallas News, and authored several exhibition catalogs. He also curated several exhibits at The Reading Room and the McKinney Avenue Contemporary.
Mitchell was active in Dallas Video Fest, Wordspace, ArtsEye, Houston Fotofest and Art+Seek on KERA. Love of friends, family, travel and art were central to his life. He is mourned by brother Bryan Nelson Mitchell Sr and wife Sandra Kay. Nephew Bryan Nelson Mitchell Jr and wife Elizabeth Helen. Niece Nicole Dawn Youngblood and husband Kevin Rex. Also seven grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to pay tribute to Dee's life will be in the Horchow Auditorium at the Dallas Museum of Art on Dec 2, at 10 a.m.
Any memorial gifts to honor Dee can be made to the Dallas Museum of Art.

Dee was an intellect who supported the arts and artists, collected art and books. A keen observer, brilliant writer and voracious reader who was well travelled. He loved being the center of attention, enjoyed decadent desserts and dim sum, throwing holiday parties with his homemade cookies laid out.
Dee was the best of friends and I´m so lucky to have shared over 20 years of inspiring journeys with the brilliant, intelligent yet funny man. I´m missing him so much. Rest in peace my friend
