Christie Schmoker Obituary

Christie Allen Schmoker, 79, of Burleson passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016. Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Open Door Church. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home. Memorials: Charitable gifts in memory of Chris can be sent to SPARK Worldwide, www.sparkworldwide.org, or Open Door Food Bank, www.opendoorexperience.com. Chris was born in Vernon to Chris and Dollie Schmoker on Jan. 9, 1937. He graduated from Baylor University where he met his spouse, Judith A. Schmoker. They married on June 22, 1958. Chris went on to graduate from the University of Texas Dental School in Houston and then practiced dentistry in Fort Worth for 42 years. He was an amazingly strong, compassionate, hard-working, loving man. He served as a deacon for many years at University Baptist Church in Fort Worth. A loyal and dedicated father and husband, Chris provided for, adored, and raised his family in Fort Worth and then in Burleson. He loved and took great care of the nearly 40 acres of land in Burleson where he resided for 45 years and where he taught his sons and grandsons to be men and taught all his children and grandchildren what it looks like to "hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees" (Revelation 7:3). Chris loved life and adventure and traveling to new places; he loved celebrations and good food and listening to beautiful music, especially when performed by his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and adored Judy as his one and only sweetheart for 58 years. Chris was "like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers" (Psalms 1:3). He was blessed, and he was a blessing and the fruit of his life is a beautiful legacy that will continue to prosper. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Lisa and husband, Kevin Dobson; sons, Chris "Drew" and fiancee, Paula Gray, Craig and wife, Laura, Trey and wife, Brandy; his sister, MaryAnn Davis; brother, Charles Schmoker; many nieces and nephews; his grandchildren, Jessica and husband, Matt Chance, Chelsea, Devyn and husband, Cody Woodruff, Christian and wife, Alex Moore, Susan, Samuel, Luis, Faith, Noah, and Luke.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Schmoker's passing. I just found out a few days ago. He was my Dentist for over 25 Years. My whole family followed me and he became their dentist also. He was the nicest man. I was somewhat afraid of dentist when I started going to him. However, as time went on he made me very comfortable and made all my fears disappear. I hated when he retired because I knew I would miss his kindness as well as his welcoming smile. Because he was such a wonderful man, our loss is heaven's gain. You have my deepest sympathy and I pray that God will continue to bless your family. He will be greatly missed.

Chris was a good man as I have known him for years. I know you don't remember me, but I worked at his house and for his rentals, and also his office. I bought one of his houses on 1304 California Parkway. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, and I would have attended his funeral but was out of town. He was also my dentist. One of the best men I knew. Our prayers are with his family.
